Sample Collection - Pall/Gelman EnvirocheckTM HV Filter

ASI has worked with all LT2 approved filters and we now work exclusively with the EnvirocekTM HV. It is an absolute 1-micron capsule filter and undergoes rigorous QA/QC (every single filter is integrity checked by the manufacturer before shipping). It is approved by the EPA for volumes up to and including 50L (raw, surface water) and is the most widely used filter for EPA Method 1623 analysis in the US. The Drinking Water Inspectorate (UK) and other countries have approved this filter for finished water use (up to 1000L).

The HV filter presents several specific advantages compared to the other most commonly used, approved filter for Method 1623 and LT2:

  • Ease of handling: As a capsule filter, the filter element and the housing are a single unit, which requires no assembly in the field. Therefore, installation of the HV for sample collection is a simple matter of connecting hoses to the inlet and outlet ports. Note that only the attachment of a new or clean inlet hose is required between sampling events as the sampling rig elements are all down stream of the filter and therefore do not require sample to sample disinfection.
  • Reduced equipment cost/needs: Because of the unique HV capsule filter design, there is no separate filter housing that needs to be purchased (typically, approximately $150). The self-contained HV housing eliminates the need to clean/disinfect (a minimum of 30 minutes) the apparatus and to store, handle and reinstall filters between sampling events, reducing labor costs.
  • Decreased risk of sample contamination: The capsule filter design means the filter element is permanently sealed inside the HV clear plastic housing. Therefore, no direct contact with the filter element is required before or after sample collection, preventing contamination due to handling.
  • Superior shipping integrity: Each HV filter comes equipped with end caps that fit snugly over the inlet and outlet ports, forming watertight seals for shipment to maintain sample integrity.

Plumbing components for ASI's HV sampling apparatus are a flow control valve, flow totalizer, tubing and clamps, all supplied by ASI. ASI can include separate inlet assembly tubing and fittings, if desired, to completely eliminate any disinfection / cleaning of the apparatus between sampling events.
